Accessibility
Draft for the team to check. Kris to update the "What we know isn't perfect yet" list after the full accessibility check in polish week.
This is everybody's park, so it should be everybody's website too.
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA, the standard most UK public websites follow.
What we've done
- Large, clear text, with good contrast between text and background.
- Plain English, short sentences and clear headings.
- Every page works with a keyboard alone, and shows where you are as you move around.
- A "Skip to content" link at the top of every page.
- Every photo has a text description for people using screen readers.
- Videos will have captions.
- You can zoom in up to 400% without the page breaking.
- No moving or flashing effects.
- A "Read this page in another language" link at the bottom of every page.
What we know isn't perfect yet
- Some of our history links go to the Stockport Image Archive, which is a separate website we don't control.
- The automatic translation is done by Google Translate. It's very useful, but it may not always get things exactly right.
