Welcome
Up here on the hill, you can see the whole of Stockport laid out below you, and on a clear day right across the Cheshire plain. It's been that way since the 1870s, when local people chipped in to buy this land and Lord Egerton gave the rest.
That's the spirit of this place. It was paid for by ordinary people, for ordinary people, and it's been looked after by them ever since.
The park and the Towers
When Heaton and Norris Towers went up in 1968, 136 households got a new home in the sky, and the park became their front garden. Today, for hundreds of families in the Towers and nearby flats, this is where the kids learn to ride a bike, where you walk the dog, catch the sun and bump into your neighbours.
No garden? No problem. You've got 150 years of one right on your doorstep.
A park for everyone
Heaton Norris is proud, hard-working and properly mixed. Families here have roots in Stockport going back generations, and in places from the Caribbean to South Asia, Africa to Eastern Europe. Young and old, every faith and none, LGBTQ+ neighbours, disabled neighbours, people who've just arrived and people who've never left. The park belongs to all of us, and this year's celebrations are built by all of us.
What's happening
The celebration runs in three phases, finishing with a big Heritage Festival.
The party in the park
Family days in the park to start the celebrations.
Stories and ideas
Memory sessions, history walks, the Bonfire Night tradition, and your chance to have your say on the park's future.
The Heritage Festival
Music, food from every culture on the estate, games, exhibitions and a proper send-off to the 150th celebrations.
Backed by The National Lottery Heritage Fund
The Heritage Fund has awarded £207,375 to make the 150th happen. Thanks to National Lottery players, the whole celebration is paid for.
